Chris spearheaded the creation of the Consumer Electronics markets initiative in the TM Forum to address requirements to manage end-user devices. Chris has worked in management consulting, marketing, technical, and services roles for clients such as IBM, Telecom Italia, TIM, TCSI, Siemens, Lucent Technologies, Granite Systems, British Telecom, Detecon, and Aricent.
 Business Drivers for Device Management: Market Assessment and Outlook
This session will outline the key trends and business drivers for device management globally and discuss the likely development of the device management market over the next 3 years. It will also identify some major opportunities for cost savings from device management, as well as exciting revenue opportunities that can be leveraged from it. Some case studies that provide key insights into the deployment and use of device management products and services will be referenced.
Abraham has over 20 years experience in telecommunications and IT and has managed major projects for investors, regulators, telecommunications and cable TV operators, equipment vendors, independent software vendors and enterprises.
Previously, Abraham worked as Consulting Director at Ovum, and before that, Director of Consulting at Gartner.
Perspectives I: Understanding the End-User Needs of the Large Corporate Enterprise
This session will describe the requirements for device management as viewed from the perspective of a large corporate enterprise executive involved in the deployment of home networks to the dwellings of many tens of thousands of the company’s remote-working employees. Further insights will be offered from the point of view of a company that is also at the cutting edge of device development and the industry strategy for management of devices.
Chuck Trent is the Cisco VP responsible for IT Global Client Services and Operations. Chuck’s remit comprises overall IT leadership for Cisco’s client technology solutions and support, mobility, IT managed services and global IT operations.
In 2007 Chuck was named by IDC (International Data Group) as a recipient of the CIO 100 Awards – the Innovative 100 – for demonstrating innovative application of IT for the progress of business objectives.
Chuck is a member of several customer advisory boards and steering committees in the Telecom industry.
Perspectives II: The Role of Enabling Technologies from Today's Device Manufacturers – Part 1
This session will provide a viewpoint from a manufacturer of end user devices to assess both the service provider and end customer needs and integrate management and usability aspects needed for today's services into the end user devices it is now developing. Indeed it will be shown how the device manufacturers act as a driver for the services that can be offered. Particular focus will be placed on how device manufacturers can enhance the consumer experience of the service and how they can engineer in reduced complexity and thereby lower the associated maintenance costs.
Jim Thomsen is a Product Line Manager responsible for the P&L, product development and marketing of Westell’s MSO Solutions. He has over 14 years experience in managing and releasing residential modems and gateways. Prior to Westell, Jim spent over 12 years at USRobotics/3Com and was responsible for launching MAXg, 3Com’s Audrey Internet Appliance and was a core team member of the award winning, USR x2 modem launch.
Perspectives II: The Role of Enabling Technologies from Today's Device Manufacturers – Part 2
This session will outline the requirements for device management as experienced by a supplier of a home networking control platform that enables deployments of residential devices, by different service providers to their residential customers. “Home Control Services” required by service providers include home monitoring, media and entertainment management, home health, and energy management. The speaker will discuss issues encountered in deploying these services and the implications on suppliers.
Jim Hunter is a founder of 4Homemedia and its Chief Architect & CTO. His vision has guided the 4Homemedia team as they have created the next generation home control services platform. Prior to founding 4Homemedia, Mr. Hunter founded Premise Systems in 1997, an early pioneer and the first IP-based open architecture home control system. Jim is an industry fellow, outspoken technical evangelist, and hold several patents. He actively participates in CEA, Cablelabs, HANA and Lonmark working groups.
