NGOSS 5.0 Overview and Release Notes

In Release 5.0, the NGOSS suite of documents has been enhanced by the addition of a fourth key framework, a Telecom Application Map (TAM). GB929 Telecom Applications Map describes how to organize and catalogue the real OSS systems that are used to implement a service provider’s business. The addition of this framework facilitates and supports NGOSS in providing a technology and process roadmap for the industry worldwide that allows the simplified implementation of business process automation coupled with significantly improved business flexibility and agility.

Another enhancement to the NGOSS suite in this release is the addition to the Shared Informaton and Data Models (SID) document family of GB932 and GB933 which were produced by a joint working group of the TM Forum and the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF). This joint working group formed to compare the NGOSS SID model with the DMTF Common Information Model (CIM) and propose a policy to ensure that the two information models could inter-work. GB932 is the DMTF/TMF Model Alignment for the Physical Sub-model and GB933 is the DMTF/TMF Model Alignment for the SID Logical Resources and CIM Networks Sub-models. A further release applying the model alignment identified in these documents to specific scenarios is anticipated.

NGOSS Release 5.0 also includes enhancements to the eTOM Business Process Framework which has grown to include a number of components. This Release 5.0 of the eTOM suite updates the previous Members-Only Release 4.5 in a number of areas:

  • Updates, corrections and improvements to the eTOM Model set out in GB921D, based on member comment and feedback
  • Further information on eTOM-ITIL linkage in an updated interim GB921V document that absorbs the previous GB921L document (which is now redundant)
  • A new document, GB921N, providing worked examples of NGOSS Contracts and the use of eTOM in these
